It’s 2019 and that is the year when 5G was supposed to start rolling out to consumers. And given the launch of LTE, it will probably be a while before it is everywhere. But, the good news for ATT customers is that if you live in select markets, the carrier’s 5G service has officially gone live.
The carrier says that 5G for markets like Birmingham, Ala., Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Providence, R.I., Rochester, N.Y., San Diego, San Francisco and San Jose, Calif. are now live. This is only a handful of markets in the US, but it’s a good start.
Scott Mair, President of ATT Technology Operations says, “We believe 5G technology will be game-changing, and we continue to help drive this next wave of innovation. We were the first in the U.S. to offer commercial mobile 5G, and this is the next step as we build to nationwide service in the first half of 2020.”
5G smartphones still aren’t as common as people would like yet. There aren’t very many choices in the market today, but in 2020, there will be a bigger push and we will see more. There are some reports that Apple might have their own 5G iPhone.
